Special Victims Unit
Bensalem’s Police Department Special Victim Unit is staffed by a sergeant, four detectives with three of those detectives trained as child forensic interviewers, two police officers trained as school resource officers .
The special victims unit investigates crimes involving online bullying, child solicitation, investigating child pornography,  child abuse, sexual assault, elder abuse, domestic/family violence, abuse towards special needs people, missing persons and hate crimes.  Along with investigating these crimes the unit works closely with other county agencies to see that people with special problems are then referred to those agencies for assistance.

There are two officers trained as school resource officers that are assigned to the township schools.  With staff from the school district and other units from the police department the unit has been responsible for designing security and emergency plans for the many schools in the Bensalem Township School District. The unit has also offered to assist the many private educational institutions in the township in designing their emergency plans.

The special victims unit along with the special investigations unit jointly works together on a wide variety of internet crimes focusing primarily on crimes against children.  We also take a prevention attitude by offering internet safety classes.

The unit also handles juvenile crimes and oversees the township’s Youth Aid Panel.
