Homicide Charges filed
Bensalem Police have charged 30 yr old Koustantinos Yiambilis with criminal homicide, risking a catastrophe, recklessly endangering another person and related charges.
On Monday, April 7, 2014 at 11:25 PM, Bensalem Police responded to Longmeadow Apartments, apt #117 located in the 3000 blk of Bristol Rd, for the report of fumes coming from the interior of the apartment. Responding Bensalem police officers and Fire personnel from Newport and Nottingham Fire companies banged on the door and windows before Koustantinos Yiambilis opened the door. Officers entered the apartment after being advised that another person was inside. As they searched the apartment they discovered an unconscious 59 yr old female lying on the bedroom floor. The female was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital and was later pronounced deceased. The female victim, who was the resident of the apartment and the mother of Koustantinos Yiambilis, has been identified as Karen Yiambilis.
Koustantinos Yiambilis was also transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Preliminary investigation found that Koustantinos intentionally caused the death of his mother by utilizing a portable generator.
As a result of the fumes 4 adjacent apartments were evacuated and were displaced for several hours until Fire personnel deemed the apartments safe.
The investigation is being conducted by Bensalem Police, Bucks County District Attorney’s office and Bensalem Fire Rescue.
Koustantinos Yiambilis was arraigned, bedside, by Magisterial Judge Falcone. Koustantinos Yiambilis is being detained with no bail at the hospital. He will be guarded until he is released from the hospital and then will be transported to Bucks County Prison.
